NRA DOA.

Just in case some of you missed it, and believe me, you were'nt the only one, the NRA (National Retailer Association) FASHION DESIGN AWARDS took place on the Gold Coast last Wednesday the 19th March.

Fashionista's and their hangers-on flocked to the Convention Centre to watch boring amatuer entertainment and mediocre compares crap on about hideous clothes that bordered on the hilarious.

Now amongst the drivel, there were some stand-out pieces (you know who you are), but not many, and like the CFDA FASHION AWARDS in New York, the NRA should NOT telecast, making it a little exclusive and elusive.

The 'Council of Fashion Designers of America' in conjunction with US Vogue put on this event which brings together every Designer, Model, Actor, Magazine Editor etc to celebrate fashion and it's contemporaries, leaders, mentors and the like. Similar to the Oscars, the CFDA Fashion Awards are voted by people 'in' the industry, for people 'in' the industry.

In my opinion, the NRA should not be put on television, and it needs to relocate to a more fashion conscious city. The Awards last Tuesday were a cross between a really bad Rock Eisteddford, the Logies, and a fashion parade that takes place outside the Bi-Lo in a rundown shopping centre. It was just awful. And anyone that disagree's is an idiot. The music that accompanied Collette Dinnigan's clothes was a very bad choice, so thank the lord she was'nt in house to witness it.

Pre-taped dance routine's, an average pop star squealing through her 1 song set and grotesque fashion does not a Fashion Awards make. Compares that have no connection to the frock industry at all making banal comments was the straw that broke the camel trenchcoats back. As lovely as Sophie Falkiner is, could this woman have been anymore rehersed, or coiffed, and as for Cameron Williams, the man would'nt know a Finetti from a Fleur Wood.

My adivse for the NRA is forget about the television audience and respect the fashion more. Create a Fashion Awards night that is stylish and commendable, and maybe the real stars of fashion will attend, and you'll no longer have to rely on the one's who are looking for a lifeline!

Australian Fashion needs a conglomerate similar to the CFDA, that governs and supports the way Australian Fashion should be exposed and experienced. And like alot of people who adore fashion, none of us want a production of Rooty Hill RSL proportions.

Tack, Tack, Tacky!!
